Janette Phillips

Her work is constantly evolving and shifting as she experiments with her own interpretations of the natural world around her.

Janette aims to capture the essence or atmosphere of a place or time through sketches and photography. These inform her memories back in the studio where the final pieces evolve using a wide variety of media.

Janette is fascinated by the marks and traces she can make upon paper, board and canvas and therefore my work, although having a fixed starting point becomes fluid and develops through the interraction between myself and the marks she is making. As a result representation becomes secondary to the paintingâ€™s surface where tonal and compositional harmonies and tensions structure the final result.
